Silicone vs. Saline Breast Implants

For the last few years we have had access to silicone gel breast implants in Canada. They feel more natural, have the consistency of "normal" breast tissue vs. saline implants that may show more rippling on the edges and feel like a "bag of water". The new implants have "cohesive" gel meaning that the gel itself has the consistency, more of a "gummy bear" as compared to older gel implants that were more liquid. This means that if the implant was to break, the gel would not leak out as a liquid. If a saline implant was to break, the liquid saline would leak out and get absorbed by the body resulting in a "flat tire" appearance of the breast. PS. Always ask look for the letters FRCSC which mean Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. This means that the doctor is a certified specialist having completed many years of specialist training in surgery, after medical school.
